Congratulations! Motherhood is a beautiful and transformative experience, but it can also bring about physical changes that impact your comfort and well-being. Whether you're anticipating pregnancy, currently pregnant, or a new mom, prenatal and postpartum physical therapy at Nicole Meyer Physical Therapy can empower you to navigate every stage with confidence.
Why Prenatal Physical Therapy?
Pregnancy is a time of incredible growth and adaptation. Your body undergoes significant changes to accommodate your developing baby. Prenatal physical therapy can help you navigate these changes by:
Managing Pregnancy-Related Pain: Back pain, sciatica, pubic symphysis dysfunction and round ligament pain – these are just some common discomforts. Physical therapy can provide targeted stretches, exercises, and manual therapy techniques to alleviate pain and improve mobility.
Preparing Your Body for Delivery: Learning proper breathing and lengthening of your pelvic floor muscles can lead to a smoother and more comfortable childbirth experience.
Promoting Optimal Posture: Physical therapists can assess and address postural changes that occur during pregnancy, minimizing aches and pains.
Educating You on Body Mechanics: Learn proper movement patterns to reduce stress on your joints and muscles throughout pregnancy.
Why Postpartum Physical Therapy?
After childbirth, your body is recovering from a major event. Postpartum physical therapy can help you:
Recover from Delivery: Whether you had a vaginal birth or a cesarean section, physical therapy can help strengthen your core and pelvic floor muscles, promoting healing and reducing pain.
Address Diastasis Recti: This separation of abdominal muscles is a common postpartum issue. Physical therapy can help close the gap and restore core strength.
Manage Urinary Incontinence or Leakage: Physical therapy exercises can strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, improving bladder control.
Reduce Postpartum Pain: From back pain to pelvic pain, physical therapy can provide targeted relief and promote healing.
Strengthening for Baby Care: Physical therapy can teach you the proper lifting techniques and core engagment to prevent injuries while caring for your baby
Return to Exercise Safely: Learn safe and effective exercises to gradually regain strength and fitness, while considering your postpartum body.
Benefits Beyond the Physical:
The benefits of physical therapy extend beyond the physical. It can also improve your:
Overall Well-being: By managing pain and discomfort, physical therapy can enhance your energy levels and improve your mood.
Confidence: Feeling strong and capable in your body can empower you to embrace motherhood with confidence.
Bonding with Your Baby: Being pain-free and having greater physical capacity allows you to focus on enjoying this precious time with your little one.

Pelvic Pain? Physical Therapy Can Help!
Pelvic pain is a common issue for many women, affecting everything from intimacy to everyday activities. Often shrouded in silence and confusion, it can leave you feeling isolated and frustrated. But there's good news! Pelvic floor physical therapy can be a powerful tool for finding relief.
What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic floor muscles play a crucial role in bladder control, sexual function, and overall pelvic health. Pelvic floor physical therapists are specially trained to assess and address dysfunction in these muscles.
How Can PT Help with Pelvic Pain?
Pelvic floor physical therapy offers a variety of benefits for pelvic pain, including:
Identifying the Cause: Through a comprehensive evaluation, your therapist will pinpoint the origin of your pain, whether it's muscle tension, weakness, or misalignment.
Addressing Muscle Imbalances: Targeted exercises and techniques can help strengthen or relax your pelvic floor muscles, promoting better balance and pain relief.
Improving Blood Flow: Pelvic floor physical therapy can improve circulation in the pelvic region, which can aid in healing and reduce discomfort.
Scar Tissue Management: If childbirth or surgery has left scar tissue, physical therapy can help soften and mobilize it, minimizing pain.
Learning Self-Management Techniques: Your therapist will equip you with tools and exercises you can use at home to manage your pain and prevent future problems.
Taking Control of Your Pelvic Health
Pelvic pain doesn't have to control your life. Pelvic floor physical therapy offers a safe, non-invasive approach to finding lasting relief. If you're experiencing pelvic pain, don't hesitate to reach out to a qualified physical therapist.

My Approach
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 15 years in the field of pelvic floor physical therapy and am a Certified Women’s Health Specialist, a specialist accredation by the APTA that is the highest designation for speciality in this field. I have an eclectic background which has brought my focus into the speciality areas of pelvic health, TMJ and Scoliosis. While treating both the jaw and the pelvic floor may seem like an odd combination, there is actually a lot of overlap in the two conditions, including comorbidity of conditions in addition to similar structure and physiology.
An individualized assessment is the foundation of my care, taking time to evaluate the whole person. I look beyond the injury presented to get the full picture of a person’s movement, posture, alignment and muscular restrictions across your body which may be more fully contributing to your pain. I will look deep into all areas of your health to get to the root of your pain and restore your body into full wellness.
